Two new After-School programs starting soon!
Ultimate Frisbee Team
Monday and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:50
Our Ultimate Frisbee team is very inclusive and is a great way for students to have fun, develop friendships, learn skills, and get in shape. There are always 3-4 games against other, similar schools and so it has helped our students to feel involved with a larger community. We encourage all students to participate. We have had tremendous family support at games, and it has been a nice way for our families to be better connected to each other as well.
The first practice is Monday March 29th and the final day is Wednesday June 9th.
Art Portfolio Class
Mondays from 2:30 to 3:50
Roberta Paul, Clearway School’s art teacher, will be starting a new after school program for students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades who are interested in creating an art portfolio in order to apply to art school. This class will give many of our talented students the necessary time needed in order to compile a portfolio.
The first day is Monday, March 29th and the final day is Monday, June 7th.
Clearway School student awarded a Gold Key from the 2010 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards.
Clearway School had two students recognized in the 2010 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Competition. Alex Karnes received a "Gold Key Award" for a pastel drawing, entitled " Airships in the Fog", which will be entered into a national competition and be included in a public exhibition in New York City in June 2010. Isaiah Berson received an "Honorable Mention Award for a pen and ink drawing, entitled "Memories of a Mountain".
This year 6,500 individual and 500 portfolio submissions were made from students grades 7 - 12 from public, private, and parochial schools in Massachusetts. An estimated 100,000 submissions are made to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards nationwide. At both the regional and national levels, entries are juried by an esteemed group of professional artists and writers. The jurors range from fine and multimedia artists to poets and novelists.
Student winners from Massachusetts were hosted at an awards ceremony on Sunday, February 14, 2010 and the works are exhibited publicly in the Transportation Building in Boston from February 1 – March 19, 2010.
