History
Clearway School
Clearway School was founded in 1975 by a group of 10 teachers who wanted to realize their dream of starting a school for children with learning disabilities that would be based on their collective experience and strongly held beliefs about the most effective ways to reach and teach students. There are many aspects of the program structure established by the founders that remain intact today. These include- a collaborative approach to working with students including leadership that follows a co-director model, individual attention including weekly 1-on-1 meetings with an educational counselor, language-based classrooms, and high-interest electives intended to capture interest. Clearway has also maintained its commitment to being a school for learning-disabled students who need a small setting with individual attention. Clearway was located at 61 Chestnut Street for its first 46 years of existence. Clearway moved in August of 2021 to its new home at 573B Washington Street, Newton. This new location provides significantly more space and many modern features and preserves our connection to the Newton community.
